Kingfisher Point
Kingfisher Point Natural Area, Fort Collins, CO. Kingfisher Point is a fairly nondescript natural area running largely along the Poudre River east of Fort Collins. A former sugar beet field, it is undergoing extensive work to restore native vegetation to the area. It is filled with large cottonwood trees and a healthy population of kingfishers. Mule deer are found in the underbrush along the banks of the river. It is not a place that immediately fills a photographer's heart with joy upon arriving, and yet I found more interesting photos here than at any of the other natural areas I have visited so far! Keep an open mind and look closely!
