Running Deer
Running Deer Natural Area, Fort Collins, CO. The Running Deer Natural Area is east of central Fort Collins and west of I-25. If you are a fan of rabbitbrush (and I am!), you are going to love this natural area. Both rabbits and rabbitbrush are plentiful. So are raptors this time of year, and I saw one great blue heron. Unfortunately, no running deer. Or, for that matter, deer of any kind, although I imagine I was simply unlucky. It appears to be splendid deer habitat. There are plenty of ponds, and the Poudre River just touches the southern edge of the Natural Area.
